Gluten Free Pizza Sauces

No pizza would be complete without the sauce and gluten free pizzas need a gluten free pizza base recipe in order for you to develop a sauce you love. With a gluten free pizza base recipe, you can experiment and build a recipe for a sauce that you truly love.

Many say crust makes the pizza, but a bland sauce can ruin the whole creation. Likewise, a sauce that is too salty or tangy will cause you to put your slice down and just have something else.

So you really need a base recipe for your sauce so you can add to it and develop exactly the sauce that will please your palate. Select from one of the recipes below.

Base Recipe I

1 6-Oz Can Tomato Paste

2 TBL Olive Oil

½ Cup Water

3 TBL Garlic Powder

2 TBL Dried Oregano

1 TBL Sugar

1 tsp Salt

¼ tsp Ground Black Pepper

½ tsp Apple Cider Vinegar

In medium sized bowl, add tomato paste, olive oil and water; stir.

Add remaining ingredients and stir.

Ideally, you should allow the sauce to sit at room temperature for thirty minutes for flavors to develop from the herbs.

Then spread onto gluten free pizza crust and add toppings.

Base Recipe II

2T chopped onions
1 small garlic clove
1 can (14.5 ounces) whole peeled tomatoes or 4 large peeled fresh tomatoes
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp sugar or honey (optional)
⅛ tsp freshly ground black pepper

½ tsp dried oregano
½ tsp dried basil
½ tsp dried rosemary
½ tsp fennel seeds
¼ tsp gluten-free garlic powder
2 tsp sugar or 1 tsp honey (optional)
½ tsp salt

Puree all ingredients in blender until very smooth. Place in small saucepan, and cook over low-medium heat for 20 – 25 minutes or until desired consistency. Makes 1 cup, equivalent to one 8-ounce can of commercial canned tomato sauce.

Base Recipe III

1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
2 teaspoons fresh basil or 1 teaspoon dried
2 teaspoons fresh parsley or 1 teaspoon dried
¼ teaspoon fennel seed
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon sugar

Combine sauce ingredients in a small saucepan. Simmer 15 minutes and set aside.

Base Recipe IV

1/3 cup minced onion

2 tsp extra virgin olive oil

1 – 12 oz. can tomato paste

10 oz water

1 clove minced garlic

1 TBL agave, honey or molasses

1/2 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp dried marjoram

1/2 tsp dried basil

1/2 tsp ground black pepper

1/4 tsp dried red pepper flakes (or 3/4 tsp red bell pepper flakes if you do not like much spice)

Preheat a small to medium sauce pan on medium to medium high.

Add olive oil and heat (only takes a few seconds).

Add onion and sauté on medium heat until transparent, stirring continuously to prevent burning (occasionally for non-stick pans.

Add the rest of the ingredients: tomato paste, water, garlic, honey, oregano, marjoram, basil, ground black pepper, red pepper flakes; and stir.

Simmer for about 20 minutes.

Spread pizza sauce over pizza dough and add desired toppings.
